Volcanic Mss
Eyjafjallajokull sounds like it could be the name of a thrash or death metal band, however it is actually the name of a volcano. The havoc caused by the aforementioned volcano has affected many industries including the music industry.
Many events connected to the entertainment industry have had to suffer cancellations due to the volcano. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, has run into trouble as many European artists are unable to make it in time. With most flights being grounded until further notice, bands such as The Cribs, Talvin Singh, Bad Lieutenant, Gary Numan, Frightened Rabbit, and Delphic have no way of getting across the ocean in time. Even the Chicago based brass group Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are stuck on the other continent as a result of them being on tour there.
Flights within the European continent are also grounded and this forced Whitney Houston to jump onto a ferry to get to her concert in Dublin. The Diva is currently on her “Nothing But Love” world tour and is scheduled to perform in London in a few days time. Other artists affected by the ash cloud are Welsh indie pop band Los Campesinos! who were due to perform in New York & New Jersey, while Mika couldn’t find his way across from Paris to perform in Lisbon.
The volcano’s mess is expected to spread to next week as well and this suggests that many more disappointments are in store for music fans as more cancellations loom on the horizon.
